I guess I better write a little about that---since very soon I'll be doing just that--turning off all my lights, although I already have all possible light bulbs that are low voltage and considered green.
By that I mean that they don't work everywhere yet, as in those standing lamps with dual bulbs--for instance, but they work really well in bathrooms where there are six or more bulbs at a time. I just use three and leave the other sockets empty and they give out as much light as six of the normal bulbs.
I changed them all about 2 years ago when I found them on sale for 18c a globe at Walgreen's. So I bought a whole box and put them wherever I used light bulbs, expecting to see a huge difference in my power bill down the road. Later, I discovered that the same light bulbs cost about $6.90 at other stores--so I had gotten a fantastic bargain.
The reduction in my power bill never happened--and my explanation is that PSE raised their prices just as I made the switch-over. Oh well--it still made feel better that I was doing a tiny little bit to ease power usage throughout the USA.
