Hello on President's day 2009

Thanks to nearly all the presidents who have come before, especially those that gave their lives while in office!

What a beautiful day it's been!
I don't remember the weather ever being so gorgeous--at least to look at--on this date.

It must be in honor of President Obama and the promise he brings to the whole world--to make it better!

So I go down there to Redondo and think that I don't need my thick ski jacket that I usually wear while walking by the waterfront in winter--big mistake!

I could not believe my ears and eyes--as there was a virtual storm blowing, giving the impression that Puget Sound had become a roaring ocean, with huge waves breaking on the ebbing tide. In over 12 years of walking there--I've never seen it like today.

The little photo from my cell phone doesn't show that--but for those that have walked these shores know that we don't usually have any waves to speak of.

Of course there were lots of people there, lots of dogs too, but it didn't seem that crowded because most of them were actually on the beach itself--whiles we who walk for exercise usually do it on the boardwalk.

The noise level was tremendous and seemed to surround me to the extent that I wanted to block my ears--but I couldn't do that, without exposing my freezing hands and it would have looked silly, walking along with my hands over my ears. But my skivvie had extra long sleeves so I pulled them down to keep my hands warm instead.

But the noise came from everywhere-- overhead from planes, very busy gulls screeching their heads off, from the cars on the road, from dogs barking, people yelling, chimes blowing from all over the place (like those) and the one sound I really do love---the waves crashing to the shore, and then when I thought it couldn't get any noisier--boy was I wrong--on came the loudest leaf blower I've ever heard.

Luckily I was able to pass him very quickly and retain my calm, and as you see in the photo create the illusion of a quiet day on the waterfront at Redondo.

Back to work now!
