The Beginning of the end of the war -(occupation?)

Today President Obama announced officially that all troops would be out of Iraq sometime in 2011, and that all combat troops will be out by next August--(as 2010)--however there are questions about approximately 50.000 non-combat troops remaining on the ground to help the Iraquis to recover their country.

It was a little spooky seeing him stand in front of the troops in much the same way as our previous Git in chief--only of course the message was a bit better--and our new Commander in Chief --so much more commanding.

Some people are asking (quite legitimately) why not get all the troops out sooner?

Well for one thing--there isn't much for them to do here right now, considering the lousy state of our economy. So, in the regard to work for instance, the later they come home the more work there should be,- (as the stimulus package should be working a bit at least)- or that's one theory, among many.

No matter what, I was very glad that a date has been set for the end of the war--and their return home. Also they have been given more funds and support to help them adjust to civilian life, after having been deployed for such a long time--in some cases for seven straight years.

Here's something I just heard about President Obama's visit to Canada--it seems that Putin raised his big head (in the shape of a Russian fighter plane) and tried to fly into Canadian airspace--while our prez was there enjoying lunch in some undisclosed location.

Fortunately the Canadians sent two fighter planes to intercept them and shushed them back to Russian air, without any shots being fired.

So I've given my reports for the day and will call it a night now.

Just one more thing for those who haven't done so yet--Please watch the Daily shows and Colbert's --no matter how bad you might feel--these two have cracked me up all week!

DUH!

  1. Great news about the end of the Iraq War. Hard to believe it will be over eight years after the invasion once the last combat troops leave in 2011.

And LMAO at the flying Putin head, but at least he was rearing it over Canadian airspace and not Alaskan.
